Design Matters: Truly sustainable sports venue design
Tuesday, May 31, 2011 ~ 7:30am
True sustainability encompasses not only environmental objectives but also social and financial goals. How will tomorrow's sustainable stadiums be delivered?
Designed by MANICA Architecture, Shantou University's Sports Park (pictured), China features a host of attributes designed to fulfill a truly holistic sustainability agenda.
For example, when not being used for sport the park's 6,000-capacity multi-purpose arena can be converted into four individual auditoriums. It features a sloping ‘living roof’ which creates a recreational and relaxation zone. And the building sits at the heart of a vibrant university campus.
Is this the future of financial and environmental sustainability in venue design?
David Manica, founder of MANICA Architecture will explore some of these ideas during the opening morning of Stadium Business Summit 2011 on Weds 15th June in Barcelona.
