Barcelona, a city synonymous with design, culture and sport, has been chosen as the host of Stadium Business Summit 2011.
“Our delegates told us that they had a great time in Dublin at last year’s summit. And they also told us that Barcelona would be a great destination for our next event,” says Summit founder Ian Nuttall. “We are delighted to be able to respond to their requests and are now working with the city’s key stadium facilities and teams to create a fantastic Stadium Business Summit 2011 experience.”
Xperiology, the organisers of the Stadium Business Summit, has selected the stunning, Richard Rogers-designed Hesperia Tower as the event headquarters and main conference venue.
Hesperia Tower is located just 10 minutes from the city’s excellent airline connections and just 5 minutes to the new, 40,000-capacity stadium of RCD Espanyol football club.
“With FC Barcelona intent on remodelling the Camp Nou, building a new arena and creating a 'Barca city' now is a perfect time to meet the new executive team at the club during Stadium Business Summit,” explains Nuttall.
The city’s 1992 Olympic Stadium and Palau St Jordi arena are being put out to private management contracts, with several key industry players currently vying for the operating rights.
RCD Espanyol's new stadium won the coveted Stadium Business Awards for Venue of the Year 2010 for its innovative, low-cost, environmentally-friendly design – over 40,000 seats for under €60m total build cost. The club's new stadium is being promoted by UEFA as a model for future stadium developments by Europe's football teams.
Nuttall adds: “Fantastic weather, great venues... it's June in Barcelona with the industry's biggest names – the perfect backdrop for the key global meeting of today's stadium industry.”
