Nominations pour in for Stadium Business Awards 2011

Monday, March 14, 2011 ~ 15:45pm

The organisers of the Stadium Business Awards are expecting a record number of nominations for 2011’s prize giving, after announcing an early surge in entries since nominations opened in January.

The Awards - which recognise leadership, innovation and achievement in the delivery, operation and management of sports facilities globally - have been expanded this year to feature twenty categories, including the coveted Executive of the Year and Venue of the Year awards.

And with just under six weeks to go until the 22 April entry deadline, nominations have been arriving in their hundreds from stadium professionals around the world, keen to recognise stadium successes, the best events, team achievements and the industry’s rising stars.

Over 1,000 entries were received prior to last year’s inaugural Awards ceremony, held at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin - a figure that founder Ian Nuttall believes will be easily surpassed this year.

“We have seen a tremendous uptake in nominations since we opened in January, and are looking forward to receiving many more in the coming weeks,” said Nuttall.

“It is great to see the industry embracing the Stadium Business Awards. The awards were designed to drive awareness of the stadium, arena and sports venue sector, and the many successes that the industry generates each year. Sports venues entice, entertain and enthral billions of sports fans every year, and we hope that the Stadium Business Awards will go some way to help recognising the achievements of the leading stadiums and arenas and their management teams.”

In addition to the quantity, Nuttall has also been impressed by the high calibre of entries received so far:

“Last year’s judging panel was a difficult process after the exceptionally high standard of entries we received, and this year looks set to be no different. Each of the entries we have received thus far is worthy of special praise, and with so many commendable entries in each category, our judging panel may well find themselves in an unenviable position!”

Nominations for the Stadium Business Awards 2011 close at midnight on 22 April 2011, with the shortlists for each category announced shortly thereafter.

Winners will be announced at the Stadium Business Awards 2011 ceremony at Camp Nou, Barcelona on 15 June 2011, in front of an invited audience that will include all shortlisted nominees, as well as delegates of the Stadium Business Summit, the Awards judging panel, key stadium executives and the Stadium Business Awards’ commercial partners.
